MonetDB database system with SQL front-end
SQL is the de facto language for database applications; it is a 'must-have' language for a database. MonetDB/SQL is a full-fledged SQL implementation which closely follows the SQL-99 and SQL-2003 standards where possible. Using the MonetDB kernel beneath out of the box query 'light'-speed is achieved.
MonetDB relies on graphical user interfaces provided by others, e.g. graphical client utilities like DbVisualizer, SQuirrel, Aqua Data Studio, and iSQL work flawlessly with the server and make your experience with MonetDB/SQL even better. Barebone textual interfaces are provided for a quick-start as well.
There are application bindings for MonetDB/SQL using JDBC, ODBC, PHP, Python, Perl and C, to make integration in existing web-service developments easy, while MonetDB/SQL runs on nearly any platform ranging from UNIX, Linux and Mac OS X to Windows. The system is tested on a daily basis and endures a large amount of tests extracted from real life usage.
